Red shirts plan to test the government's emergency decree in Bangkok again late today when hundreds are expected to gather at Lumpini Park to do "protest aerobic dance exercises".

Key red-shirt member Sombat Boon-ngam-anong - who made headlines by leading a group tying red ribbons at the Rajprasong intersection twice after he was released from two weeks of detention under the emergency decree - told The Nation yesterday he was "con?fused" as to how doing aerobic dances with red-shirt music could violate the decree, which forbids political gatherings of more than five persons.

"I'm still baffled how we can break the law," said Sombat, who added that he and his group was prepared to face possible arrest.

He expected up to 1,000 red shirts to take part in the Lumpini event.

"A lot of people will definitely come to take part," he said, of the event, which he said was a symbolic protest. He said the government lost political legitimacy after its bloody handling of red-shirt protesters in April and May, which led to 90 deaths and more than 1,800 injured on both sides.

The red shirts are due to gather around the Clock Tower inside the park at 5pm. The park is traditionally popular for aerobic dances, though today's event will probably be the first aerobics protest.

  • One more thing though, I hope that next time we can be more organized and instead of concentrating on taking pictures from the outside, we should all join the group and dance. The 2 leaders are very brave and wonderful. My heart goes to them along with all my respect and admiration.

  • @Anek2804 : What he posted indicated that either his brain is washed or his eyes are shut or his ears are covered or all of the above. You tried to show others that Thailand is under a rightfully government and we should all do what the hell they want us to do. Anek2804 may live in Myanmar or North Korea for too long or probably his parents are from those countries and taught him that it is OK to let the government do whatever they want you to do. Go Red-Shirt !!!!

    PS: For Anek2804, Wake Up!!!

  • This is great!! It shows how people fearlessly fight with the tyrant. It shows that they are not afraid of the military dictatorship. When a dog was cornered, it fights back. These red-shirt brothers and sisters are not dogs and the military backed government can't shut them down. I hope we'll do more and do it peacefully. Study the law and play along with it.

  • @Anek2804 I think it's cute. And Abhisit deserve the middle finger.

  • Pathetic. Teaching little kids how to flip their middle finger. Then when they realize it they try to fix it by telling them to youse the pinky. Last thing the country needs is being back in the headlines with signs of unrest. Sick.
