Since you seem to be intent upon defining what is or is not art for the rest of us... then please, give us your unambiguous and clearly stated definition of what the word "art" means to you personally.

That's it... just a very simple request: define the word "art" in a completely unambiguous manner, please.

The fact is that you will find it impossible to do so without resorting to at least some degree of subjectivity. Hence, your opinions are no more valid than anyone else's.

The idea that art is just shocking people or forcing a reaction from them is YOUR idea of art, not mine and certainly not Ligetis or Stockhausens!

There has always been a period in art and music in which the middle class didn't understand its meaning and was shocked.

Was it Stravinskys purpose to shock the audience with Le Sacre? Beethoven to shock the audience with his 3rd Symphonie? Mahler with his symphonies? Mozart with his Disonance quartet? KS to shock the audience with Kontrapunkte?

Arguing about what is/is not "art." = futility/nonsense

Art is experimental by Its very nature.

Art is both, none of and all of what any individual or school of thought suggests it may be. All artists and their work, are parts of a whole.

What is and is not art, ultimately, will not be judged by any living human. In fact, it may never be see or interpreted by another living being, whatsoever.

Just create.

Once again you fail to perceive the character of the late 20th century art revolution which attempted to derail the traditional concept of art with a new liberal loose one in which anything could be defended as art. Hence so much nonsense dressed up as art, in a way which is absolutely unique to modern times - from the late 20th century forward. Before that this concept simply did not exist.
