@Tranceform8tion your completely right in what your saying limiting your master buss before you send it for mastering is pointless, -6bd peak level is the standard normally, some buss compression ssl G comp or Neve 33609 to glue the track together nothing to heavy handed as it cant be undone, my preference is the Neve if your doing anything with really nice lows, and if your gonna master your self check out the sonnox range of plugins the limiter and inflator are amazing sonically better then oz
