See my 'Non-Fighter Planes & Choppers' playlist to watch the full "James May at the Edge of Space" show which also contains this footage. In this BBC special "James May on the Moon", James May from Top Gear U.K. is taken on an emotional ride to the edge of space in a U-2 spyplane. The score is "Flight" by Ty Unwin which wasn't available separately last time I checked. I took this version from the Patricks Aviation file sharing site - well worth a look.

  • makes me think, hey were alone in this galaxy on this little speck in endless space. maybe it aint such a bad idea to take the bike sometimes and maybe recycle shit.

  • videos like this always make my eyes watery... tears of joy for how far mankind has gone yet in the same time tears of sorrow for all the stupid things we're fighting each other for. My country is planet earth and its flag features a little blut dot. My "religion" is humanism. I will die for all of you but kill for none of you.

Hopefully in a few years i'll be able to get my PhD. Then i hope i'll be able to start making my own little contributions to mankind.

  • this stuff makes me always hope we arent the only idiots trying to explore the dephts of the space

    hope there are other lifeforms

  • @robbantheshit thats gonna do nothing, the elite ruling us do not care for protecting the environment

  • who would dislike this video

  • And then there was that awkward moment whenyou realize that you accidentally left Earth's atmosphere and your engines aren't working anymore.

  • Anybody knows why the pilot climbed so high with the landing gear still down?...I thought he used the landing gear to limit speed, but it is not the case...the U-2 has airbrakes, didn'it?...it must be something special of the wonderful Dragon Lady.

  • no wonder that james may isnt excited so much anymore when he flies in an aircraft

  • @HellaKool76 I highly doubt it considering the sr71 could not do zoom climbs and I doubt it could sustain level flight at 124k.

  • Good for James, but I'd rather still fly in an SR71....much much faster, and how high....still classified. The absolute height record is still a modified Russian MIG at 124K feet..but wonder if the Blackbird went higher?

  • @nealrutgerskid

It's easy, it's the long wings.....steady low thrust will still get you high altitudes :)
