  • great video!

one question: what is the name of the bag? any brandnames? is it found at a local hardware store?

  • I don't think so. Depends on your hardware store. The bags are for filtering biodiesel and I found them on eBay. Go to eBay and do a search for seller "dudadiesel" (without the quotes) or "Polyester Filter bags Biodiesel" again without the quotes. Hope this helps.

  • How easy is it to clean the interior (fuzzy side) in the field, from silt and bits of decayed leaf? Okay to use inside out, to make cleaning debris easier? Water sources are a little less ideal, now that spring is over and leaves fall. Looks like just the thing to get the chunks out before purification. I don't think it'd get anymore than that out, in terms of nasties, except maybe some protozoa already attached to plankton. Thanks for sharing, the biodiesel bag is a great idea!

  • Sorry for the delay. I didn't get a notice on this comment. The bag can be turned inside out to be washed. If the water is really crappy I either use coffee filters as a first filter inside the bag or a clean bandana. I hope this helps. Again, sorry for the delay.

  • Thre was nothing here that implied you were recommending this as a 1 micron filter to remove all the dangerous pathogens. You were clearly recommending this bag for removing the larger stuff like bugs, tadpoles and plant debris.

  • I've used those filter bags professionally in the Coating / Printing / Converting industry, they are very effective at removing debris from any fluid.

  • Hiram, It's hard to believe that that bag is 1 micron. Millbank bags ar 20 micron or more and they hold the water much longer and it filters slower. Is there any way to confirm the validity of 1 micron with those bags? The water pours through them like a regular metal mesh sieve.

  • GOOD

  • While I think it's ok that it's washed, the purpose of keeping the inside fuzzy and the outside glazed is to prevent 1. Damage to the filter and 2. keeps the pores a little more consistent.

Just wash it out, don't scrub it or you may damage the polyester.

Also, they're 1 micron nominal rated, which means it's only 50% of 1 micron particles will be filtered out. According the many govt standards, this is NOT good enough for filtering cryptosporidium cysts.

  • Thanks for the vid

Have you looked into the the effectivness of it's water purification capabilities yet?

    Thanks
