i don't understand why ed is ignored so often. if you watch them live, he basically does nothing for 2 hours

You're pretty much right, and I don't get why that is. There are many songs where he is crucial though - My Iron Lung, No Surprises, Myxomatosis, The National Anthem, Climbing Up The Walls, Let Down and heaps more.

yeah, its a crying shame they don't get him doing more, cos he's really quite talented. my theory is is that he's really shy and therefore only too happy for other people to take the glory
