Politicians have let us down. They've abused their power for too long - it's time for a change.
KT Tunstall backstage at the Rally for Change - an event put on by Vote for a Change (9th July 2009). Vote for a Change is a campaign for a referendum on the voting system we use here in the UK.
"The only way we're going to make politicans understand their responsibilities to the people they represent is to make them more accountable at elections. It's time to kick out the antiquated way of doing things that has allowed them to get away with so much and bring in a new style of elections where every single vote counts.
The majority of the people in this country don't have a politican who represents them. It's time for that to change.
Support our efforts to get the Government to announce a referendum on electoral reform before the next General Election. We need to restore faith in our politicians and our politics, otherwise it all goes downhill from here. "
Well said, a democtratic society, gone with the days where Britain used to produce build and supply to the world.

@firstanointed Sadly the status quo rules here in the UK too and now even more decisions are being made centrally regarding local issues that were always meant to be handled by the local authority. This is happening more and more in order to take away the peoples forum so that we have less and less say in what affects us within our community's and central gov't push through legislation faster than ever the 2003 one sided treaty between the UK/US is just one prime example.

A reform of the electorate system. We might as well have a different governing structure that can kick out our wasted bloated capitalist economy. New Labour have gone from socialists to global capitalists just to get their share of the world's wealth. Well now we've slipped from the fourth largest to sixth largest economy.

Do you live in a Representative Republic or a True Democracy?
The Representative Republic tries to insure the big population centers don't necessarily have all the power and say.
In a true democracy, your big population centers will dictate to the rest of the country, and everyone else be damned.

More power to KT for speaking out. I'm not from the UK, I'm from the USA unfortunately, and down here, the politicians that truly against-the-grain, democratically minded people tend to choose are pariahs among their profession and generally are never allowed to hold any serious decision making clout. Maybe it's different in the UK, I sure hope so. Good luck with it all.
