  • The 5.56 fragments are as devastating ! The 5.45 tumbles way more, is more acurate, and doesn't have nearly as much recoil... overall an all around better round.

  • @AssassinSteven True the 5.56 fragmenting is devastating, but in all the rifles I shot and testing I have done I never found the 5.45 to tumble any more, be more accurate, or have less recoil than 5.56. Dont believe everything you hear. There is much miss information and propaganda out there. Test for yourself to come up with the truth. Both are fine rounds

  • Why does your AK74 have an AKM style gas block?

  • I don't give a fuck what the Mall Ninjas say about how much better the 5.45 is in "Tumbling" Or "Fragmenting" Or whatever. I can get any kind of well designed hollowpoint bullets I want in 5.56. They WILL expand, & fragment, Unlike the FMJ 5.45 or even 5.56 FMJ. I've seen the gel test, done on "Tactical Arms" Neither 5.45, & 5.56 in FMJ reliably frag. They both bend in the middle & tumble. Similar performance. Until you bring in the better ammo selection of the 5.56, & that ain't an opinion.

  • @esh325 I agree with respect to Military cartridge of similar bullet weight recoil impulse difference would not be noticeable to the shooter. Any noted difference is with the rifles. The Ar has the advantage of straight line recoil and the AK has the advantage with highly effective muzzle brake. Shooting rifles of same weight I would not rate ones more controllable than the other.

  • @jetfuel545 I think it's the muzzle brake is the only thing that makes the difference in recoil. I bet if you fired both round out of the same exact rifle with no muzzle brake, there probably wouldn't be any difference.

  • @esh325 Your correct, Military loading of 5.45 and 5.56 are almost dead even. In my testing in same barrel length 5.56 Nato 55g was only 34fps faster than 53gr 5.45. That equals zero difference. Any difference in these rounds are in bullets used not cartridge. Dont let andy of these so called experts tell you otherwise, its untrue.

  • @FireControlGroup I often hear that. I wonder how could it be true though. I think military loadings of the 5.56x45 and 5.45x39 being shot of the same barrel length have roughly the same speed and grains.

  • @Vettejocke Having less chamber pressures has nothing to do with accuracy. It means the cartridge design is more efficient

  • @Vettejocke and yet neither should be used as long distance rounds, they are intended for 0-300m.

  • @jetfuel545 5.45 has less recoil than 5.56, 33% less in fact.

  • the 5.45 has less chamber pressure thus less range, meaning less accuracy at the longer distances, but overall its a nasty round
