@matt5421 Cummins doesn't use glow plugs, they use grid heaters. glow plugs heat the air in the cylinders, grid heaters heat the air in the intake.

All diesel engines use glow plugs gas engines use spark plugs that's why when it's cold it's hard to start a diesel because glowplugs have to get warm enough to combust diesel fuel

I was wondering a couple things....has this engine had any major repairs on it yet (i.e. anything that could be considered a rebuild or overhaul)?

Also, this might sound like a random question, but what's all that black stuff on the ground that came out of the exhaust right after the engine started?
