It's bcuz of the jargon and the intricacies of the work that scientists do. Same with people who know too many facts and details, such as history or the social sciences. They are called nerds too!
How I wished that we lived in a world in which scienists doing constructive live affirming work were seen as rock stars to be emulated, and not as "nerds".
Also, scientists need to much more politically involved to prevent the breakthroughs from being perverted to destructive ends.
