A broadcast of the newsmagazine 20/20 was blocked throughout Canada either partially or entirely on March 18, 2011 due to the content of the program interfering with a publication ban relating to the current trial of Mark Andrew Twitchell. On Shaw in Winnipeg, this message aired on both WDAZ and KXLY for the entire hour. Here is generally what the broadcast/message looked like...

Original episode synopsis: Murders that may have been inspired by a popular TV show; singer and actress Jennifer Hudson discusses her life and career.

UPDATE: It seems that this did broadcast in other regions of Canada, but I guess in certain regions (eg. Edmonton and surrounding areas, including Winnipeg), they had a block on the broadcast.

  • It took me all of 10 seconds to find this 20/20 episode on a newsgroup, and less than 4 minutes to download it - It's pointless and ultimately futile to attempt a media blackout in the internet age.

(Incidentally, this aired in its entirety on both Boston and Seattle ABC feeds on Eastlink cable here on Prince Edward Island - maybe it was just a regional thing).

  • @jcice3 same in Marystown Newfoundland, also eastlink.

  • So when the trial is over will it air for canadians?

  • @ZeusciferX - If you're familiar with Usenet, all 20/20 episodes get posted to a.b.multimedia and a.b.teevee - If not, I'm sure most of the major public Bittorrent sites would have a torrent for it.

  • so how can we watch this then???

  • @jcice3

what site can you share that link? I'd like to watch it! Thanks

  • Aaaaand all the people who want to move to Canada aren't going to now.

  • @tvlondon *Googles WKBW* lol ;-) I think so? I was watching it on whatever ABC is here, although they simulcast to Canadian stations (I think "A Channel" here? Not sure), so I don't know why we didn't get the ban.

Seeing that it was also aired in NL, I'm wondering if maybe it was only banned in the Prairies, since the trial is taking place in Edmonton?

  • The dumb thing is that any OTA viewers in Montreal, Toronto, Windsor, and Vancouver could have watched the episode via WVNY, WKBW, WXYZ, or KOMO respectively.

  • @backformore06 Were you watching WKBW over-the-air?
