It's sad that people attack Irshad without knowing one fucking thing about her. I read her book when it was called 'The Trouble With Islam'. It's an excellently written and researched book. Attack her ideas, if you can - otherwise, you're just another mewling and puking scumbag.

Irshad is one of the most incredible, enlightened people I've ever met. And, she's cool :-)

If Amanpour was really neutral she wouldn't be in such a high position at CNN. She claims that she'd be able to judge a situation merely cos she just stayed at that place (former yugoslavia e.g.). That's not a valid statement, because staying at a particular place still doesn't make you see the whole context and it doesn't necessarily tell you what happened BEFORE that led to this conflict. She stands on a PARTICULAR political front

I still have great respect for Irshad Manji. But today, for this, my respect has taken a dip.

She's an incredible mensch. With all her intelligence I have a hard time believing that she would continue to be a true believing Muslim.

@ishikawaml Well that is true if your more specific. Saudi Arabia and to a much lesser extent Iran, the sort of behavior you have mentioned is legalized. In Pakistan it is illegal, but a small number of terrorists are terrorizing the population with roadside bombs. Muslims killing muslims! The majority of muslims who live outside the middle east are very peaceful. But the majority that do live in the Middle East are also peaceful. Irshad Manji's point about the moderates is valid.

@arcticmint Sorry I should have specified The New Testament, however that doesn't change the fact it is Muslims that are killing people for cartoons depicting Mohammed with a bomb shaped turban, it is Muslims that blow themselves up to make their political statements, it is Muslims that stone women for wanting to read/ or who happen to get raped. My ultimate point is not to be harsh on Islam but it is a bit of a stretch to claim Islam is a religion of peace.

@ishikawaml Actually the Old Testament has a written policy to murder everyone in a tribe that is the enemy of the Israelites. Not to mention God commits genocide in the old testament. The Koran actually overcomes tribal tendencies forming the Umma.
