A favorite Christmas song sung by Hayley and Amanda, accompanied by Glenn with his Scandalli accordion. The words are by Christoph von Schmid (1768-1854), a Roman Catholic priest and German schoolteacher. One source claims that this is written in 1794, another says 1850. The music is composed by Johann A. P. Schulz (1747-1800). Schulz was a child prodigy at the age of 15. He studied under Johann Kirnberger, an organist who had been taught by J.S. Bach. Melanie Schulte (1885-1922) translated from the original German "Ihr Kinderlein kommet, o kommet doch all"...
Oh, come, little children, oh, come, one and all,
To Bethlehem's stable, in Bethlehem's stall.
And see with rejoicing this glorious sight,
Our Father in heaven has sent us this night.
Oh, see in the manger, in hallowed light
A star throws its beam on this holiest sight.
In clean swaddling clothes lies the heavenly Child,
More lovely than angels, this Baby so mild.
Oh, there lies the Christ Child, on hay and on straw;
The shepherds are kneeling before Him with awe.
And Mary and Joseph smile on Him with love,
While angels are singing sweet songs from above.
The text from "Wee Sing for Christmas" version:
(sung by Hayley and Amanda)
Oh, come, little children, O come, one and all,
O come to the manger in Bethlehem's stall,
And see the Lord Jesus asleep in the hay,
The little Lord Jesus was born Christmas Day.
He lies in the manger,
The hay is His bed,
The star, high in heaven,
Shines over His head,
And Mary and Joseph
Look down on the boy,
While shepherds and wise men
Kneel down in their joy.
Now "Glory to God!" comes
The song from on high,
And "Peace for all mankind!"
We sing in reply,
Then come, little children,
Be happy and gay,
For Jesus, the Christ Child,
Was born Christmas Day.
The original German:
Ihr Kinderlein kommet, o kommet doch all!
I enjoy this delicious tune well sung by girls
I appreciate also the accompaniment on accordion
