Imagine a community where you want for nothing, life is easy and work is plenty. Well, one such place did exist in a remote Russian outpost - but not any more. It's not even a place within Russia's borders. It's actually on a Norwegian archipelago called Spitzbergen. It once embodied the Soviet dream - a system where everyone's needs were provided for. In a series of special reports for RT, Oksana Boyko visited what was meant to be Communism's example of a bright future.

  • Some of the saddest truths is that no matter what type of society to emerge, corruption, greed and mismanagement would destroy all forms of economic models. Such self serving individuals within every social paradigm in the world have executed this respective socio-economic model with compound incompetence and wanton indifference. No form of "ism" would work for as long as there's self serving people behind the wheel. People determine whether society works or not.

  • How come the russian town in Norway?

  • This is so nice. Capitalism destroyed communism.

  • I cant see many people jumping at the chance to live on a desolate island where most of the year it's -30 deg C with over six feet of snow, constant blizzards and where the only work available was in a coal mine. Not to mention the 24/7 screeching and mountains of fishy bird shit from millions of gulls thrown in for your enjoyment during the "Summer" months.

  • i wanna go there and explore

  • This is sooooo cool!!!!

  • @bobshenix Holodomor denial is not a reason to refute socialism altogether.

  • "Shaky Ideology" Oh yes? Which ideology would that be? Did workers have control over production and have a democratized economy in the Soviet Union? NO, it had nothing to do with the central part of Socialism, not to speak of Communism. Long live Socialism!

  • Communism killed even more people than Hitler could have possibly dreamed of, yet naive fools today still believe it is the best way moving forward. Some people really need to read history, and not just the small excerpts offered in history class!
