How to paint an oil painting from the beginning. From the drawing phase through the painting process. This painting that I am working on for my upcoming solo show is called "Jolly Rogers" and is oil on panel. More soon!

  • You are still by far my favorite artist....amazing!

  • @GrayBird28 thank you!

  • Jane I am curious to know if the shading you do before the paint has any effect on the final piece or if it's just there to guide you. I as because I'm a charcoal artist (you can see some of my drawings on my youtube page) and I am interested in painting in oil. I love this painting!

  • @starward Oh and my final paintings have anywhere between 5-17 layers of oil paint. That is why it takes so long to finnish one! :-)

  • I love this one,

    you inspire me.

I have been working on a computer animation

and it is taking a long time to get done.

the canvas and paint brush calls to me

    when I see your art.

    thanks for sharing.

  • @brettsartin3d great to hear!

  • I believe the smudger things with points on both ends are called stumps and the rolled up paper with one point is called a tortillion. That's French for "smudgy thing." :P

  • @TheRichAnt That is sweet of you to say! Thanks!

  • @starward no the shading from the pencil does not show at all, like you said it is really just a guide for me. I will check out your stuff! Best, Jane

  • Thanks everyone!!!!!!! I was able to paint all day yesterday on it, I will have to post more progress soon.

  • @starwood. Charcoal n oil as underdrawing will mix together. When doing it with a hard pencil n and overlay of clear gesso it has no effect unless she leaves some places thin. Oooo it wld be great to experiment with charcoal n oil in play somehow. That would be interesting.

  • I love your art. I need to befriend you on here. Im.looking for more friends in the art area to help me out. I will send u some of my stuff im working on! Love the colors in this one and.love ur hair too!
