I want to take birth control to help me gain weight but I'm afraid of blood clots and other dangerous side effects. What do you recommend for me (besides eating food because I really don't have a big appetite). Thanks.

I use Aviane and I lose weight, but not continually it basically seems to reduce stomach bloat etc. so i'm always bout 5 pounds less than when not on the pill. i don't think it has a diuretic in it, so just wondering how come i lose and not gain on it? Thanks!

I have heard that the range provided by most labs for normal thyroid results are pretty wide and therefore many true thyroid cases go undiscovered because almost every one falls within the norm range and only the few with very serious thyroid isses do not? I heard a Physician say that once and It made sence....what are your thoughts as a physician and not as a rep for a lab?

@niamh2739 Reference ranged especially for TSH is extremely wide. Most doctors are not trained to look for patterns in blood work that point to the potential root cause. The majority are only trained to look for the BOLDED out of range markers. With my patients, I use the functional ranges below:
TSH 1.8-3
T4 6-12
T3 Uptake 28-38
FTI- 1.2-4.9

What brands of bc pills make you gain weight?

@JoliefleurMarrie Most BCPs are made from horse urine. The estrogen found in these BCPs promote thyroid dysfunction leading to weight gain.
