Three rare maned wolf pups have begun exploring their exhibit at Denver Zoo. Born Dec. 24, 2009, they are Cayenne, a female, and Santiago and Diego, her brothers. They've all just received a clean bill of health by Denver Zoo doctors. Watch this video and then come visit them between Denver Zoo's two Feline Buildings.
the pups are born black. but they receive adult coloration at about 2 months of age.

@JenFL7 not really foxes either. they are a unique canine species.

@MokushiSaiki the reason they don't look like wolves is because they aren't wolves. they are actually like foxes, thus the nickname fox on stilts.

It's not disturbing to me. I see both wolf and fox in the maned wolf. But, like the whale shark... I believe it's neither wolf or fox. My favorite animal as well.

How can that be disturbing? What is though howmany people call it a fox because they think it looks so much like it they won't read the sign. I go to the Denver zoo all the time. I can walk there.

Actually, maned wolves are not closely related to other wolves nor foxes. It is believed that they are the last remaining species of a different canine lineage.
I love maned wolves. they are fantastic animals.
And that puppy doesn't seem happy to be examined :P
