Ashley Addington (flute) and Rachel Arnold (cello) perform my miniature work - Duality in Time. The concert was organized by New Music Hartford - a contemporary music co-op of sorts. Their musical director is Nolan Stolz - a wonderful composer in his own right.
The piece was written under different circumstances - Nolan created a call for scores with a twist. He asked composers to log into his website at 12 noon (PDT) on 8/2/09 and choose from a heretofore secret set of instruments and composers had to choose an ensemble, compose a piece and email it to him within 60 minutes. If your piece was then chosen for performance, the performers would devote 60 minutes of rehearsal time to your work. That is the backstory for Duality in Time.
The concert also had a higher purpose. The concert served as a benefit for the South Park Inn Homeless Shelter in Hartford, CT.
Thanks to Nolan, Ashley and Rachel for doing such a great job all around.
Thanks Nolan! Looking forward to the August 7 concert!
