Scenes from field dressing and skinning out a deer. Smith County, Texas, November 25, 2008. 160 lbs field dressed 4 1/2 year old 8-point buck. 7X57 Mauser Ruger #1 rifle, 130 yards w/130 grain Sierra GameKing. Very fortunate to hunt in such lovely country.

  • Sometimes you find it, usually not. Shot a doe last week between the eyes. Bullet entered just and inch over her nose, exited below the brain out the back of neck. The copper jacket fragments were in the skin on the back of the neck. I've found bullets in sand on the far side of deer I shot from above.

  • Using a couple of big old pocket knives, an Old Timer and a Schrade. Three blades between them, so I always have a sharp one.

  • Nice deer! glad to see a 7x57 shooter. It's for those more sophisticated than the average joe .270 hunter.
