I thought it might be interesting to make a time lapse video of burning candles. Four days and 10,000 exposures later, here I am.

6,279 individual still photographs were used to create this time lapse series.

Most of this was shot using my Canon SD1100is with the CHDK firmware hack and a time lapse script.
The extreme close ups were shot with my Nikon D70, using a 70mm lens with an 8X macro attachment filter, running the 'Nikon Camera Control pro' software.

I purchased 12 candles for this video, then remelted the left over wax to make my own candles when those ran out (those weird, thin, twisty ones are homemade)

The video was assembled in Sony Vegas 7a,
The music is an original composition of mine. Right now the track is titled "Kyle dorian E July 27 aug 21 weird" (but that name doesn't have a great ring to it, and is subject to change). Programmed in FL Studio v5

this video and music is released under a creative commons attribution share-alike non-commercial license.

  • If you like the visuals, but not the music, look up houseofelband's channel. They have mixed parts of this video with their own version of 'Happy Birthday'

  • Guess I don't need to ask what you do when you're not painting! I love the way you used glass and water for reflection. Beautiful!

  • Thanks mom!

I wish the glass was less scratched up so the light going through it was cleaner, but, i didn't want to spend more than $6 making this video.

  • wow kyle, awesome video - timelapse ftw

  • Thanks.

I love timelapse, too, but it's so addictive once you get started.

Last night I spent 3 hours on the city streets at night, just to get 24 seconds of footage.

so......it could be a while before I post the next one.

  • Awesome man, very cool!

  • thanks.

and thank you for re-tweeting. (re-posting?) this video on your site.
