It's amusing to me how the perception of Coffee has evolved. In a world of Starbucks and cheap espresso machines, it's hard to remember how all coffee was either dripped or Instant. Yet, the advertising never really changed. The ideal coffee will always freshly roasted, blended, ground, etc.... and of course is grown on mountains and blessed by mountain goats.
However, I doubt we'll ever use "Freeze Dried" and "Home-Ground Taste" in the same sentence anymore.
I love old advertising and believe these commercials have historical significance in our consumer culture. I'm posting this for educational purposes. You can find more commercials on my YouTube channel or at http://www.bestoldcommercials.com
When I was in dietary, we used to serve Sanka to the patients. If they asked for it, we would put Sanka packets right on their trays.

General Foods was obsessed with "freeze-dried" foods during the latter half of the '60s. They tried adding freeze-dried fruit [peaches, blueberries and strawberries] to corn flakes in 1966 {Post's "Fruit in the Box" cereals}, with disastrous results. Then, they hit on the idea of freeze-dried coffee...and finally hit the jackpot with "Maxim", their most successful brand, by the early '70s.
