This is a tape that Channel One News accidentally gave me in 1997. They thought I was a potential advertiser. They never wanted the public to see this outrageous video because it undermines their claims that the in-school TV show is about news and not about commercials.
Channel One News has always been in the kiddie marketing business. Every president of the company has been a marketing or advertising executive -no journalists or educators.

As you can see Channel One News for proud of their ability to advertise junk food and drinks to a captive audience of schoolchildren. The junk food companies walked away from Channel One News between 2002-2005. In July 2010, Channel One News began running Coca-Cola ads on its official web site. The era of junk food ads may be coming back.

The teachers in this video are real teachers. Heaven help us all if there are any more teachers like these who are so indifferent when it comes to the welfare of schoolchildren.

  • Channel One is basically unchanged from seven years ago. True their audience has been drastically cut in size as schools have dropped the program. Ads for upcoming movies and TV shows waste considerable amounts of school time. There are more PSAs than before because advertisers don't want to be associated with such an anti-education company like Channel One.

Channel One's captive audience is still disproportionately found in lower-income areas.

  • This is highly troubling, how is this channel still being shown to our children everyday? Companies now a days seem to fancy marketing from the crib to the grave.

  • He is disturbing. There are 200 kids at my school and usually the commercials they show now are PSAs. Have you seen Channel One within the last 7 years?

  • Very disturbing.
