http://www.JohnFranklin.com presents the Morgan Silver Dollar. Minted from 1878-1904, and again in 1921, the Liberty Head (Morgan) Dollar is the most collected U.S. coin. More than half a billion were minted, but over 270 million of those were melted by the U.S. Govt. after 1918. The 1878-P Proof is considered the King of the Morgans, because of the 880 proof coins minted that year, only about 80 have been accounted for. The coin derives its nickname from the man who designed it: George T. Morgan.

  • i have one how much is it worth

  • As the end of the 19th century approached - many silver dollars remained locked away in bank bags in many banks nation wide. Many Americans, more notably in the East, found it rewarding and more feasible to resort to paper money upon their persons over silver dollar coinage - Due to the weight difference. In the West many silver dollars were mostly used for gambling purposes. A numerous amount of high grade Morgan Dollars are available to date thus pinpointing how the aforementioned is so.

  • I just purchased an 1885 CC PCGS MS 65 with the imprint "GSA" below identifying information. I'm trying to understand if such signifies the General Services Administration program. Did PCGS remove coins from GSA original casings and slab them as PCGS GSA Morgan Dollars? You should note the 1918 Pittman Act which called for the conversion of over 270,000,000 silver dollars into bullion. Many have said the King of the Morgan Dollar is the 1893 S or the 1889 CC in high grades.

  • @bluesdog53 maybe not pl but that date is

    "king of morgans"

  • I have a 1888-CC Morgan Silver Dollar

  • anyone want to get 1 oz silver Morgan rounds for free? Go to //silversnowballdotcom/3897 and get some more info on how to do it!!!! Its a lot easier than you think!

  • very informative. Thanks!

  • @mintrev ok cause iwas certain it was 1886 or something liek that

  • Last post was somewhat wrong. The Morgan Dollar was minted from 1878-1904 and then again in 1921.

  • um the coin was made from 1881 to 1921

  • @estesoyojajaja you should not think about how much you can get for the coin now. Try in ten years research the value. Unless you need cash very badly then research the value and try to get the best deal. The great thing about these coins are 1. they are silver 90% maybe. 2. They hold historical value as well. They do not make for great short term investments. Use Stocks for that. They will however beat interest rates and are untraceable by banks which means you can do cash deals. no tax

  • @PukkPukk i bought an 1893 cc morgan for $ 5, at a free market, what do you make of that?, oh, i forgot, it has a little scratch, provably less than an inch, may be 0.2 inches. How much can i get?

  • @Filmaker25 I just purshade a 1893 cc morgan dollar for just 5 bucks. It has a little scratche in the neck of the lady liberty, it size might be 2 cm, and i would like to know, how much affected that to the price of the coin. I read on a book that for one the price can go for around 600 and 1500.

  • @Filmaker25 or spend them :)

  • Thank you for the interesting facts, especially about the buzzard. I'm just a beginner in this coin stuff and any info is great.

  • what do the Morgan fans think about 1888 and 1889 New Orleans? I bought the 89 for 125. Its in prett nice condition, good luster The eagles breast feathers are quite visible. Though lady liberty has two visible nicks on the cheek, though the definition of the coins details is quite high. Do you think visible nicks will drop it a grade?

    Great video.

  • Yes this was informative. I love morgans.

  • Bravo John, I love the Morgans I keep them in great shape and condition. I think they're the most historicaly significant coin of all time.
