@mogoot I'm old fashioned. I prefer to hear a song sung by someone who has a voice and who can sing. And really, I thought that was the point of a musical. This is why we have the garbage today which is called rap music.

Judi Dench singing this on Pebble mill at 1, will never leave me, so moved by her perfomance, it made me cry ,she is so talented and its a memory that always sticks as my Late Mum telephoned me just after Pebble Mill , to ask if i had seen Judy on Tv, So that song and Judy is so significant in my life

I only understood this song when I heard it sung by a non singer and Dame Judi does it best.

Something wrong my eyes I think. I can see nothing but a blur.

This 'song' is not meant to be sung, it's meant to be acted. A smooth singing voice would take away all the meaning.

Krealle, this song was written for Glynis Johns, who had a very limited range. It was written for her, and Sondheim knew full well of her abilities. This song can be sung by someone who has a beautiful voice, but it was originally written for someone with a limited range.
