I have both Calve Carmen 1903 Imported Monarch 78s recorded in 1902. 91002 is the one you played. The other is 91000 "Habanera". I wish I could upload it.

The record still sounds good for its age. Thanks for sharing. Calvé may not have been such a great singer (notice the shrilling high note at the end of this), but she was considered a great Carmen because of her acting of the role and her figure.

Please excuse me, but this 1902 record, not 1908 (small mistake).

I see why she was the leading Carmen of her generation. She uses her voice brilliantly. Not only is it bel canto, but she colors her voice for dramatic effect. Remarkable

Superb! Bravo! TY.
Thank you for posting this wonderful Emma Calve performance ! Since this appears to be a double sided Victor Red Seal Record, I am assuming this is being taken from the original master G&T recording 91002 from 1902, and the pressing itself would be sometime after March of 1923 (the approx. date of the first Victor Red Seal double sided discs)? Thanks again and keep all of those great historic selections coming.

@victrolaman This is a reissue from Japanese Historical Record Society from around 1937. At the very end of this recording you can clearly hear Calve shouting, "Ah, mon Dieu!"
