Swedish Egg Coffee can be made with ground coffee, an egg, water, and a pan. No fancy gadgets are required! I make coffee this way when I need to use coffee that has been ground too finely to be used in my french press.

Here is a link with more information, and a few recipes slightly different from mine. There is also a link to a YouTube video of a "coffee professional" making Swedish Egg Coffee.

  • So, the point of the egg was to emulsify the grounds? Huh... I thought it was for taste, and to reduce acidity

  • @BlackWolf4830 I never had much luck making "cowboy coffee", but Egg Coffee consistently makes a clear cup for me. It certainly does taste smoother than average coffee!

  • You know where that egg comes from, right?

But it's probably safe to use the shell. After all you do boil it. As for the taste, the coffee should be strong enough to cover everything.

  • @tomsawyerish Check out the link in the description for an explanation about the shells. I'm not sure how much difference it makes, but I would certainly omit the shells if I had any doubt about the quality of the eggs.

  • I have never heard abaout egg coffe and i am from sweden

  • @HokanTNT I fixed the link in the description. That page has some more information about Swedish Egg Coffee.

  • We in the Nation of Islam have prescribed to egg coffee adhering to the teachings of the Hon Elijah Muhammad to remove the caffeine from the coffee. How to Eat to Live Book 1 & 2...

  • ingenious

  • @SmooveTalker When we were students my brother prepared boiled eggs and tea for breakfast using the same pot and water, training for winter climbs - melting snow costs fuel. It smelled like chicken shack, I dubbed it “chicken ass tea” and didn't touch it, so I can't say about the taste. Coffee might neutralize/mask all that. Also I'm talking free range, bio eggs, not the industrially produced, stuffed with antibiotics type.

  • my co-worker who's father is from Sweden just told me about this I'm not a fan of light coffee but I'll give a try, thanks for posting!
