The Netherlands turns anti-China amid financial crisis

Dutch politician, of VVD in the Dutch House of Representatives, Arend Jan Boekestijn, called Chinese people 'slit eyes' on 17 March 2009 at his twitter site. VVD is known for their anti-China stance. The political party VVD stands for: People's Party for Freedom and Democracy.

VVD often stated that they see China as a huge competitor to which we lose jobs to, and that China's rapid development has to be hampered in any way the West can.

They proposed to stop any kind of subsidies to Chinese companies, tighter control on Chinese imports, stop technology transfer to China, boycotting the Beijing olympics 2008, more cooperation with the dalai lama regarding Tibet, and more support for Taiwan's 'independence'. They also proposed to completely stop or greatly reduce aid for Africa, stating that all criminal regimes in Africa are already supported by China.

Racism against Chinese people rises in the West due to its rapid development, unfortunately. We as Westerners often tent to focus on the bad things, but China's renaissance also creates opportunities for all sides if we could all work together and be respectful to one another.
