Atlas - The facts are on my side.
Fact: Reagan undid 30+ yrs of U.S foreign policy & re-wrote the playbook for dealing with soviets. He was the first pres to realize the cold war could be won & how it could be done.

For 50+ yrs an economically inferior empire grew into a dominant superpower whose geo-politcal borders had expanded every decade. To explain away their sudden & dramatic collapse as simply an inevitable byproduct of their weak economy is beyond ignorant Atlas.

@AtlasShruggery You've gotta be kidding me. Reagan was a neo-con? Laughable. Reagan was a true American patriot. Do us all a favor and go back to your 25-year-old copy of the Communist Manifesto you far-left liberal, anti-American traitor.

Right, the Government is the problem and not the fat, uneducated, lazy, ignorant, overly-religious, racist, hypocritical, war mongering, greedy American. Makes perfect sense to me.

AtlasShruggery..."I refuse to live in a country where corporations have more rights than people do. And I'm not leaving"... You have this posted in your profile. If tyrannical cooperation's are the devil to you what about TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENT??? Why is profit a crime?? Why does Bill Gates owe me more of his earnings because he has more?? How many tens of thousands of people has Bill Gates employed, provided fair wages and benefits commensurate with their abilities?? Philanthropic giving???

Hmmm. Unemployment was higher when Clinton took office in 1993 than when Reagan took office in 1981.

The truth is that Ronald Reagan never once presented a balanced budget to Congress despite pontificating about it his entire career. Typical Republican. Just like Junior Bush. All hat. No cattle.

Unemployment was higher when Clinton took office, but we had four years under Bush, who I don't like very much by the way.
Reagan couldn't balance the budget because he had to lower taxes to get the economy moving. The Bushes just wanted to spend more on wars, etc.

Hmmm. Sounds like you need another civics lesson. Which branch of the US government is responsible for tax policy?

Power is divided between the branches of the government, so congress and the president have to approve taxes.
Congress could have balanced the budget in the 80's, but they didn't. Don't go blaming the president when the blame rests in the legislature as well.
