  • Yea!! I used to be a supporter of drum shields, until our church got one... We replaced the styrofoam shield, which covers the bass drum area, with the acrylic shield. It looks way better aesthetically, but sound-wise, the short styrofoam shield actually works better!

    That was before we sealed the top part of the shield and stick acoustic foams behind the drums and on the drum shield. That actually reduced the volume significantly! Probably by 15-20dB.

I was'nt a fan of the "hot rod" alternative either but after working with them a few times Ive realized they definately serve an important job,just takes playing a little differently,which can also be pretty interesting by the way not a fan of the drum shield either, i feel it disconnects the drummer from the other musicians on stage... but thats just me
