Daniel2006 Video-Slideshow Mid-School WalknStand AF Sch Hr
In my opinion, this school district's physical therapist DID NOT follow the code of ETHICS based on the guidelines defined for PT.
Code of Ethics for the Physical Therapist should always consider the Core Values: Compassion Integrity. The 8 principles can be found under:
http://www.apta.org/uploadedFiles/APTAorg/About_Us/Policies/HOD/Ethics/Codeof...
Principle #1: Physical therapists shall respect the
inherent dignity and rights of all individuals.
(Core Values: Compassion, Integrity)
Principle #2: Physical therapists shall be trustworthy
and compassionate in addressing the rights and
needs of patients/clients
Principle #3: Physical therapists shall be accountable
for making sound professional judgments.
Principle #4: Physical therapists shall demonstrate
integrity in their relationships with patients/clients,
families, colleagues, students, research participants, other health care providers, employers,
payers, and the public.
Principle #5: Physical therapists shall fulfill their
legal and professional obligations.
Principle #6: Physical therapists shall enhance their
expertise through the lifelong acquisition and
refinement of knowledge, skills, abilities, and
professional behaviors.
Principle #7: Physical therapists shall promote
organizational behaviors and business practices
that benefit patients/clients and society.
Principle #8: Physical therapists shall participate in
efforts to meet the health needs of people...
Functional skills Daniel used to be able to do so well, that was over 4 years ago. He was able to walk on his own, stand, and assist with his own transfer. Then district PTs stole his mother's Gait Trainer center divider invention, mounted it on the school's GT, then stop the routine maintenance on the center divider to keep up with his growth and strength. Once Daniel entered high school, the high school's PT changed the setting of the school's GT to make it real hard for Daniel to walk. The intimidation, discouragement, and the ill-fitting of the school's medical equipment play a huge part in why Daniel loss his life-skill progress. Daniel was happy and having fun doing all that while meeting new friends. Why did the district stop him? His mother was the one doing all the teaching, how could the school's professionals do that to a mentally and physically handicapped child? That was his only chance to lean new LIFE SKILLS, and took that away from him. The music tells his story. THE ANSWER IS: the district acted in the best interest of the staff not Daniel (student)! They are aware that if Daniel stay in a wheelchair sitting position for an extended period, his legs will get numbed, contracted, and deformities will set in; therefore, Daniel would not and could not be able to stand or walk!
This is a documentary of Daniel standing skill/ability. He is a nonverbal cerebral palsy teenager and has special needs. Daniel is profoundly developmentally delayed with severe physical & intellectual disabilities. This video was taken in 2006 when he was in 8th grade after his school's physical therapist decided to stop Daniel from standing and walking without any explanation or evaluation. His mother when back to the school next day after all the students gone home. Mom asked the school administrator permission to videotape how much Daniel enjoyed and capable of standing and walking. After Daniel's parents approached a school's broad member and many other special ed administrators, then we were told the school will call an IEP meeting, that was after weeks mistreatment, this way, it allows the district enough time to come up with an excuse of it was a "liability to the district" that Daniel stand up or walk. And that Daniel must be within arm length with the district staff while he was out of his wheelchair. However, when Daniel in his manual wheelchair, that restriction does not apply. This mistreatment started in fall 2006 for over 6 weeks without any medical justification; he was confined in a sitting position to a manual wheelchair without any self-mobility, or repositioning, and Daniel was unable to communicate of his discomforts during his 5 hours at school. In fall 2010, Daniel was home schooled to be safe from the ill-fitted public school district's medical equipment that Daniel's parent disapprove of. Without the influence of his public school, Daniel was able to use his own custom-fitted medical equipment to continue his gross motor and intellectual activities to carry out his activities of daily living. This is a documentary of Daniel true life story regarding of the stress and grief his public placed upon him and his family. This video proven the public school's prediction of Daniel's health was wrong, by prematurely stopped his physical activities despite his medical doctors orders and his parents disapproval!

@larbacmc1 Thank you for your suggestion. I watched some of the vids they are so funny. We all have to be able to look back and laugh at all the funny things that can happen to a disable person.
