Massed Pipe Bands Leaving the Castle Esplanade, The Gathering 2009

Tom and I ducked out of the stands as the massed pipe band was playing at the end of the pageant because the wind was whipping across our section of seats and he was too cold to stay any longer. I was very disappointed at missing the finale as we started back down the Royal Mile, but as we hesitated, the music grew louder. "Wait, they're coming this way," I exclaimed, stopping to back against the wall and ready my camera. New Clan Henderson member David Henderson and his son Nathan ran across the street and joined us on the narrow sidewalk as the band emerged from the castle foreground. Drums and bagpipes reverberated around us, bouncing off the high walls and we were all electrified, falling in behind the band as they passed us.
