This is an unusually fiery an cheerful interpretation of Louis-Claude Daquin: Noël VIII, played by Pierre Bardon.

The organ in Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume (Var), was built by Jean-Esprit Isnard in 1772, and is probably the finest classical french organ still preserved.

  • Thank you.

  • Very cool! This organ has to be the best from the french baroque period. Truely inspiring!

  • I prefer Latry's interpretation of this piece (search "latry noel etranger" on youtube), but the sound of this organ is marvelous! BTW, if you want to play it, there's a free complete score of this and other Noels by L.C. Daquin in IMSLP dot ORG (petrucci music library). Unfortunately, the author didn't write the pedal part, so this is up to you to guess.

  • That's a good description - fiery and cheerful! Christopher Herrick, also on a gorgeous French organ, plays it slightly faster but in an irresistible lilting dance-like manner that makes the listener want to get up and, well ... dance! Both interpretations equally fine.
