War is fought by young people with hopes and ideals, ideals fed to them by older men with tired muscles. The old men praise the young people marching off to war for their dedication, loyalty and heroism.
When the Danny Boys suffer and die on battlefields, they are praised by the older men for carrying the flag the old men cannot. When they are laid to rest, the old men immortalize these Danny Boys with crosses and monuments Their names shall live forever more. Then the tired old men plan another battle to immortalize more Danny Boys.
