Rome. Palazzo delle Esposizioni : " The whole idea seemed strange at first. Exhibiting Stanleys equipment, his plans, notes, photos? It did not feel right and would have been unthinkable during his lifetime, yet on careful reflection and discussion with Christiane Kubrick it became quite clear that while his privacy had to be guarded, his professional output was for all to be seen to celebrate the life of a great film maker. ...We had a vast amount of material in many places in England and America, countless boxes full of notes, photographs, correspondence, scripts, reams of draft pages, plans, a huge library and a truckload full of equipment. ...Deutsches Filmmuseum in Frankfurt was the first institution that suggested this exhibition and Hans- Peter Reichmanns enthusiasm and energy was simply contagious, alerting me to the huge task at hand. Bernd Eichhorn, the Filmmuseums archivist, equipped with a computer and white gloves, attacked the thicket of seemingly impenetrable confusion like a white knight in shining armour. Within a year we knew what we had and how to find it. .... I would like to end with one of Stanleys famous sentences when asked about the meaning of a particular scene or film: Its not a message I ever intend to convey in words. This exhibition offers the possibility of a glimpse into Kubricks world." Jan Harlan, october 2007, Rome

  • I would love to know what Napoleon books those are.

  • He possessed more then 500 books about Napoleon, one of the most complete private collections. He had historians as consultants, especially the Napoleon expert Felix Markham, Oxford University, find notice about him on internet.

  • Damn, this was years ago. I was really hoping to find a suitable date for me to attend!

  • Amazing.

  • Does this have anything to do eith the "Kubrick boxes", or have the studios just lent out all the props from his films?

Anyway looked like an incredible exibition, wish I could have seen it.

  • Awesome stuff, coming from someone who knows Kubrick well.

  • It's the story of the pursuit of perfection. Thanx, Stanley
