The old definition of a recession - as heard above - is "two" consecutive quarters of negative growth (which in the past was revised to include any two quarters of negative growth in a given financial year). Now economists have redefined recession has "four" consecutive quarters of negative growth. Example of how stupid this is: if we have "three" quarters of negative growth, the media reports that we are NOT in recession. Misleading.
