Gilad Shalit has been held hostage for four years by the Hamas terror regime in Gaza. Hamas is demanding, as his ransom, the release of ALL female and juvenile terrorist prisoners in Israeli gaols and, in addition, 450 hard-core terrorists, with blood on their hands, who were convicted, after fair and open trials, in which they had the benefit of legal representation, of complicity in the murder of countless Israeli civilians, men, women and children. These convicted terrorists enjoy the right to legal counsel, Red Cross visits, family and conjugal visits, satellite TV, interviews with the Press and even have access to higher education via the Israeli Open University - all this, at the expense of the Israeli taxpayer.
Gilad, on the other hand, who was kidnapped in a terrorist raid ON ISRAELI SOIL, has been kept incommunicado for FOUR YEARS, denied Red Cross and doctor's visits, denied the right to send or receive letters from his family, denied any contact whatsoever with the outside world. Visiting politicians from all over the world, studying the "humanitarian crisis" in Gaza have either ignored his plight or else paid lip service to it with a one-liner added to their automatic condemnation of Israel, to the effect that he should be released or at least granted Red Cross visits. Those who did request to see him were refused permission.
There is, indeed, a genuine and desperate need of humanitarian aid in Gaza.
It is needed by Gilad Shalit.
