  • did anyone hear this in "The Wind that Shakes the Barley"?

    haha great song

  • English translation- (Oh-ro You're welcome home, Oh-ro You're welcome home, Oh-ro You're welcome home... Now that summer's coming!) Welcome oh woman who was so afflicted, It was our ruin that you were in bondage, Our fine land in the possession of thieves... And you sold to the foreigners! (Chorus)

  • Gráinne O'Malley is coming over the sea, Armed warriors along with her as her guard, They are Irishmen, not French nor Spanish... And they will rout the foreigners! (Chorus) May it please the King of Miracles that we might see, Although we may live for a week once after, Gráinne Mhaol and a thousand warriors... Dispersing the foreigners! (Chorus)

  • Great song, can't decide which version I like better, Sinead's or the Dubliners. Just watched the movie also and note the irony of the English killing the boy for saying his name in Irish and now we have Brittish women going mad on trains for people to speak English. My family came from Kerry in the 20's and can't imagine them dealing with that harsh thug military.

  • Though I'm a Japanese, I Do feel I were Irish whenever I listen to this

song. This is the song that shakes my Irish heart...

  • i wish i was more irish

  • you couldn't just give me the origanal music you had to make it a pop song?

  • Beautiful song, with a powerful meaning! Erin Go Bragh!

I love the tip of the hat to Gráinne, too!

  • brilliant sung with such passion
