LQF 2009 DEBEAKING 3birds

Debeaking is a method used by farmers for
preventing cannabalism amongst fowl.
Leo Quality Farm (LQF) are currently looking
at alternative methods of dealing with this
costly problem, such as :

one
Increasing the fiber in the birds diet ;
this keeps the birds crop full.
The crop is a pouch in a birds gullet where
food is stored and prepared for digestion.

two
Allowing the birds larger and greener areas
for pecking insects and greenery rather than
other neighboring birds....

three
Employing tighter temperature and lighting
control methods - birds are more aggressive
when exposed to a lot of light.
There are many factors which contribute to
fowl cannabilism. These are just some of the
many preventative measures LQF are looking at.
