August 28, 1999. Penny Heyns breaks the world record for the women's 50m breaststroke at the Pan Pacific swimming championships in Sydney, Australia, with a time of 30.83s. The record was set during a time trial.

The current world record holder is Jade Edmistone (30.31s), from Australia.
