Elmide Méléance from the Haiti Democracy Project, talks about class differences in Haiti, and clarifies Creole is the language of Haiti, and French is a second language, but because of the class difference, those who speak Creole, who are the largest population, have less opportunities than those who speak French.

  • I understand what she's talking about. Many "elites" that live in countries that were formerly colonies continue to use the "mother tongue" as a way of both appearing more refined and distancing themselves from the general population. In Vietnam many elites still speak French even though the official language is Vietnamese. In the Philippines, many of the elites continue speaking Spanish even though Tagalog is the official language. This is the same in Haiti.

  • Western nations have historically united to destroy Haiti.

  • Thank you for this video this is SUCH an important message.
