"Debt Ceiling For Dummies" by Old Fart Rants

What America is faced with today is a literal mountain of debt, run up almost single handedly by 3 Republican Presidents - Ronald Reagan and the 2 George Bushes - all of who raised the federal debt to incredible and unprecedented levels during their terms. And now that very same Republican Party is saying "no way" to Democrats who just want to pay the bills those Republican heroes created by raising the debt ceiling. 80% of Americans only care about one thing - jobs! Nobody really gives a shit about the debt ceiling, and Republicans have never cared about it either - until now. The fact that the Republicans are now willing to let the United States of America default on it's prior obligations, and possibly create a global financial catastrophe if we don't let them get their hands on Social Security and Medicare says it all. I just watched the video. What a rant! He makes some good points, but destroys them with straw men, tu quoque, cherry picking, appeal to ridicule, and ad hominems. (There are other fallacies, but I'm tired of pointing them out.) Whatever happened to proper debate? He could have made some indestructible arguments had he not resorted to demeaning his opponents and using judgemental language. I don't think he cares about the truth so much as inflaming his audiences emotions.

Nice way of throwing out words you don't really know the meaning to. Honestly, I didn't see that many fallacies, and you are implying that the speech is rife with them. The thing about this rant is that all the claims are easily verifiable if you just take the time to research each one separately. For example, look up "pre-Reagan taxes on the rich" or "Bush military spending." Easy to research, the facts and statistics are all there, and really?

I remember the last Republican manufactured debt ceiling "crisis". My Soldiers are down range, IN COMBAT and their paychecks were delayed. Good thing my junior Soldiers make obscene amounts of money so they can afford to pay all their bills indefinitely or they might have started worrying about that on top of minor issues like getting killed, maimed and disfigured.
