GAtO
Performers dressing blank "sandwich-man" suits distribute blank paper. One other performer records the action in video while another one uncurls a long extension coming from a electric spot in direction to the small square. One leagues in the extension a projector of slides and a portable sound. A small stair is opened and a precarious screen is raised, is hung some "sandwiches" there. While one projects in "sandwiches" photos of Largo da Batata, a decaying urban space in São Paulo, the dial is changed of the Am radio creating random between the image and the sound. Later they play the music "History of cat" of the infantile musical comedy "Saltimbancos" of Chico Buarque. The public who attends there can, dressing sandwiches, to try with the projection. To the end all the material is disassembled and collected. Gato is how we call clandestine linkage to steal electric energy in Brazil. The performance is an attempt to create a projection screen in a public space. Duration: up to 30 minutes.
GAtO was presented for the first time during festival EIA (Environmental Immersive Experience) in November, 12th of 2005 at Largo da Batata, São Paulo-SP. GAtO was also presented in Virada Cultural Festival in 2005 and 2006 at Brazilian Film Library. Recently was presented at Galeria Vermelho during performance festival Verbo 06 curated by Daniela Labra.
