Not too many prime time comedy series manage to stay on the air for 14 years but this one did for over 14 years. Unfortunately, we'll probably never see a true comprehensive release of the series for the usual mucked up reasons - original prints lost, most prints were edited a great deal for syndication and what was cut out is lost forever, and many of the episodes our now in public domain. It's kind of tragic that such a large slice of American Television has been treated so tragically. This particular episode comes from an episode which is part of a 100 episode set released by Mill Creek which costs less than 20 bucks. That alone should tell you something. But you get what you pay for. Many of the episodes on this set are in awful condition, but I recommend it anyway because even at that its better than many of the other sets out there. Even the officially sanctioned set by the Nelson estate was filled with the edited versions of episodes whereas this set has more of the complete episodes than any of the others. Anyway, this is one of the Christmas episodes entitled The Christmas Tree lot whereas Rick and Dave encounter problems when they decide to sell Christmas trees in order to buy a gift for Ozzie. And when you figure the running time, I do believe this episode is complete and is in a lot better shape than many of the others. This episode is listed on the IMDB as having originally aired on December 18, 1957.

  • why can't they show these on the vintage tv stations?

  • the messages in these shows of kindness, good will and how we should treat our fellow man are so uplifting compared to the selfish, plastic garbage on tv now, such as Jersey Shore. What a disgrace.

  • @Pectoris4 It was New Year's Eve of 1985 when Ricky Nelson's plane crashed not far from where the Stephenville, Texas UFO appeared on Elvis Presley's birthday in 2008. Elvis and Ricky Nelson looked like twins to me. Dian Fossey, the savior of mountain gorillas in Ruwanda, was murdered on Christmas Eve, 1985. Her murder remains unsolved. So does the murder of Ruwanda gorilla Digit who died in 1977, the same year Elvis left us.

  • @JORDANWASAGEM Both TV shows AND movies went downhill when Walt Disney exited "stage left" in 1966.

  • This is a wholesome show, a fun show. About 90% of what is on tv today is trash, and not even fit for an animal to watch. As a matter of fact, I don't even watch tv anymore because of all the garbage. The only time I have anything to do with tv is when I watch an old vhs tape of an old show like Ozzie and Hariett.

  • I just watched the Nelson's old Christmas shows during the Holidays. The 25th anniversary of Rick's tragic plane crash came on Christmas Eve. Now (in January,2011) David Nelson has passed away. Their Christmas shows have become more valuable than ever for those of us who grew up watching them.

  • @jonsey617

Cause they`re too busy putting crap on,

  • spending the morning with the nelsons. don't remember ever watching them but i've enjoyed all the c-mas stories! well off to make the beds and scrub the potty!

    merry c-mas anyway! ;0)

  • @jonsey617 Because they seem to think that shows from the 90's or even the last decade are "vintage" UGH
