Spent the afternoon investigating how many WATTS my appliances use while they are on 'standby' mode. My cumalitive standby power totals 132 Watts, which at R 2.10 per day means I spend R 764.91 a year, roughly one months electricity bill. The cumulative worldwide effects are absolutely terrifying, check out the video for the details!

  • Good vid. I'm doing the same with a meter, and it's fun to see how many watts various things use in different modes.

I was a little surprised you have a computer that uses 23 watts while asleep. Mine is 7 years old, and uses 5.4 when on standbye, or 4.2 when completely off. Additionally, my cell phone chargers only use 0.1 watts or less when plugged in, not charging a phone. Charging was 3.0, plugged in & charged was 1.0.

Good info, may make my own vid eventually re what I learn.
