When this movie came out, a sexually powerful woman was seen as a force for good. She could inspire the blind angel to fly again.
Sexually powerful women in movies today are either psycho-stalkers (Fatal Attraction) or seductresses who use their sexuality to get away with other crimes (Basic Instinct). Those are from the late Eighties/early Nineties, but nothing suggests that things have changed.
Supposedly, Barbarella is being remade. It will be interesting to see how they handle this.
