  • I live in Portland and plan to ride the beach stretch north and south around Pacific City. I have hang glided out there and I am stoked to just ride along the surf line as far as I can go..and then back! I LOVE the coast. Is tom using a sail in the 3 range or 4? I have a 3.7...a 4.5 and I am picking up a 5.0 next week(all from an awesome and VERY helpful windsurfer I met via Craigs List!). I just have to build the board! Can you help me out on where to get wheels and best trucks? 5 star vid!

  • Tom was on a 5.6 sail. You need a lot of sail up to get the board moving in sand. On asphalt you can get away with a much smaller sail. I'm building another board too. This one is a 46" Subsonic board with a 1.5" drop. It'll have 16.5" IllusionATC trucks and Kenda 12.5" tires and Tuffwheel wheels (if I can find them). I may not need the long trucks but that's what I have. By the way we like Warrenton cause it's close to PDX and you can drive on the beach to find the best wind. Hope 2 CU!

  • that's why you have to wear protection gear:P

  • Great video; very helpful to watch as a new land sailor. I know that broken wrist feeling and not knowing it right away!...busted mine in THREE places stepping on my shoelace running back-court during a racquetball game. so this stuff can happen anywhere. I was captivated the first time I saw land sail/board vids on Youtube! I have everything and am putting it all together now. I have built a couple of street luges before and I am making a drop board similar to what to rides here. thanks guys!

  • High speed, hooked in!! Guess we're all taking a beating. I'm Tom, the one with the busted wrist bone in this video. I've been off work for a month nursing my injury. Get well soon.

  • Looks like a great place to sail. Don't feel too bad, I just separated my shoulder falling while harnessed in. Hit a rare hole in the sand at high speed in San Diego. Keep sailing!
