For the full LX5 vs LX3 review visit my website: www.HikingInIdaho.com.
I've seen a lot of LX5 vs LX3 opinions out there, but it was hard to find actual raw data. I just received my LX5, so I thought I'd post a comparison video for these two shooters. The LX3 has better picture/stills/image quality, but the LX5 dominates for video.
I filmed this on the east side of Highland Valley Peak overlooking Lucky Peak Reservoir if you're curious. I love October weather.
Vertical color banding (blueish vertical striping) seen in video recordings is just the nature of the CCD camera beasts in video mode when they're video recording very high contrast scenes and/or at quite high iso values. It will not show up in your still image shots. A CMOS sensor-ed camera will cut down on or eliminate this phenomenon, but w/ a CMOS sensor vid & still image quality may suffer overall because w/ current technology CCD is still overall superior to CMOS.
