RBS = ribosomal binding site

great illustration! must more clear seeing this happen visually then just being told about it step by step...

RBS = ribosomal binding site? I thought that the ribosomes can only read mRNA, unless...does the ribosome follow the DNA polymerase as it tracks down the operon and translate continuously?

@cheddybumpkins That's right. The RBS designation here refers to the segment of DNA that encodes for the RBS within the messenger RNA. We basically skipped over the translation step.

what is a fusion protein ?and what does RBS stand for???
ramprs26 1 year ago
@ramprs26 A fusion protein is created by the joining of two separate strands of DNA originally coded to make two separate proteins. I forget what RBS stands for. I'm just the animator.

@ramprs26 Most likely, RBS stands for Ribosome Binding Site. That's the sequence where ribosome binds to the mRNA molecule to begin searching for the first Start codon (AUG), so that it just doesn't randomly pick a different AUG codon in the mRNA and makes a different protein.
