Senortita (Ms.) Carey, of Conservation International's Sea Turtle Flagship Program, was unveiled at the 'First Annual Hawksbill Turtle Festival' in the Estero Padre Ramon Natural Reserve, northwest Nicaragua. The Estero Padre Ramos was recently discovered as one of the last remaining nesting sites for hawksbill turtles in the eastern Pacific and a new project carried out by the local fishing cooperative COJIZOPA has led to the protection of hundreds of nests. The project in the Estero Padre Ramos is supported by Fauna and Flora International, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Nicaragua's Ministry of the Environment and the the Eastern Pacific Hawksbill Initiative (www.hawksbill.org).
