I grew up in New Waterford C.B. and my brother Joe (1955 - 2009) worked in several Cape Breton mines for more than twenty years until they closed. My Father helped secure the union for #12 in New Waterford way back in the day, showing that Bill Davis did not die in vein. I have many friends who worked in the mines and a few friends in the "Men of the Deeps", also I have partied and played along with Rita on more than one occasion. Times long past but never forgotten. I wrote this song with my sister Jeanette, although we were 5,000 km apart. She sent me several poems that I put music to and this one went perfect with an unfinished miner song I was writing at the time. Its sort of a thank you to family, friends and all the coal miners, from the many Capers who did not have to go under ground.
